Goat Willow - Salix caprea

Picture
The Goat Willow, or Pussy Willow, is found throughout all parts of the UK apart from the Outer Hebrides.

Generally small in stature, this fast growing tree can be identified by the silky, silvery catkins that appear in the spring before the new leaves. The catkins mature to a yellow on the male plant and a pale green on the female.

Historically, the tree was widely used as a grazing for goats, from which use it derives its name.
